- Try to be up to date i.e. do your self study parallelly with the classes. Dont wait for the exams to knock at your door to start studying.
- Be regular in class. An irregular student has to put in more than twice the time needed to be at par with the regular ones, as he has to first know the syllabus, borrow notes, etc.
- Sincerely do the assignments in class.
- Try to be active in class by interacting with the professors. It helps a lot especially if you narrowly miss a higher grade by 1-2 marks. If the professor has noticed you in class, he may definitely consider your case.
- For any exam, go through at least last 2 years question papers. In most cases, half the paper is set from previous years. This will ensure you get those marks effortlessly and quickly in the exam. It will also prevent possible mistakes you make during your first attempt of the problem.
- Study the professor's notes thoroughly.
- Your 1st sem's SG is your benchmark. Make sure, your 2nd sem's (&future sem's) SGs dont fall below your benchmark.
- Maintain good relation with your tutorial teacher who is responsible for a chunk of your teacher's assessment.

- Be as much regular in classes as possible.
- A min self study of 2hrs each day.
- Try to remain parallel with the course coverage.
- Solve problems and also check past yr question papers(most are available on lan).
- And the best of all is 'Sit on the front seat of evey lecture, make ur presence felt in the class', It helps when u narrowly miss a higher grade and u can cheerfully take ur face in front of the concerned prof.

- When are Inter IITs held?
Though Inter IIT's are held in December every year, the Inter IIT for aquatics is held in October during the Puja vacation.
- How are preparations for Inter IITs organized?
There are conditionings and practice sessions for all sports. Anybody can take part in these sessions and their timings and dates are put up on the notice boards of gymkhana and also all senior halls. The conditioning for every sport begins in August in the Autumn Sem. For some sports, it starts a bit late so watch out for notices. Conditioning begins everyday @ 6am in the morning and lasts for an hour. It involves running around the ground a couple of times, sprinting, different forms of running, stretching and plenty of exercises related to the sport. The practice sessions are held in the evening during the weekdays for an hour. During weekends, they take place both in the morning and afternoon, with net 5 hours of rigorous practice.
- When should preparations for Inter IITs begin?
Preparations should begin from the day you enter the institute. Sports would definitely have taken the backseat during the rigorous IIT preparations. The first step should be to get selected in the NSO class for that sport. The students should go all out in the first year as the 2 nd year is the best year to bag the coveted Inter IIT tag as the captains are on the lookout for some fresh legs and more importantly to ensure that next year, the team isn't inexperienced. So it is important to be at your peak by your second year.
- What are the things to be done to ensure Inter IIT participation?
- Once you have a goal of being an Inter IIT in a sport, your most important attribute should be dedication towards the sport, so don't miss a single conditioning or practice session.
- Build your stamina by doing rounds of the 2.2 km circle
- Always try to improve your game by raising the bar every day. The hunger for improvement will come automatically once you are passionate about the game.
- Your improvement should be visible to the onlookers
- Try to maintain a cordial relationship with the captain of the team (a senior player, who is known well in advance of the entire team selection) and the coach
- Keep talking to the captain and the coach about your game, your strengths, where you are lagging behind, what needs to be strengthened. It helps in maintain the relationship as well.
- Be in touch with all the seniors who have already gone to Inter IIT meets and talk to them about your game's progress. Ask for their valuable feedback.
- What is the procedure of selection of the Inter IIT squad?
Practice sessions initially involve practice matches within the team itself. When the event draws nearby, an external coach may be called, who coaches the team till the event. Besides, matches with outside teams may be held for crucial match practice and SWOT analysis. Based on these practice sessions, a list of probables is released and the final team list is released 10 days before the endsems. This is mainly based on performance.
- Does Open IIT performance hold any weightage over Inter IIT selections?
Definitely. In some sports like chess, the Open IIT winners were directly sent to the Inter IIT event. In other sports too, Open IIT event finalists are given preference along with last year's squad.
- What should one do if he is selected in the list of probables but does not make it to the final list?
If you were in the probables and are not in the final squad, don't lose hope coz after the endsems starts the placement sessions and a couple of seniors drop due to placement reasons, and there is always the possibility of injury. Hence, vacancies arise invariably before the event. So make sure you are available during the December holidays especially if you are a probable who didn't make it to the squad.
- What is the importance of Inter IIT in our CV?
As said before, Inter IITs are considered to be the pinnacle of extracurricular accomplishment and they give a tremendous boost to your CV. Many companies like Schlumberger, which give the best packages take Inter IIT winners as the job requires higher manual exercise. Even so, it signifies that you are an all round personality and can manage your time well.
- Is it true that students who make it to Inter IITs fare poorly in academics?
This is totally a myth. Extracurricular activities in no way harm the academic performance of a student. There is always enough time to pursue both activities. The important thing is to manage your time carefully and not waste it on trivial matters like bhaatbazi or watching movies or TV serials on LAN. There are several examples of students who have managed both activities wonderfully.
